I hope the rider is alright.

Maybe now they will put the cement meridian all the way to the lights to stop all of the illegal southbound left turns into the gas station?

As long as you aren’t impeding the flow of traffic it is legal to turn left into the Mohawk. The not impeding the flow of traffic is the part that escapes the dummies.

You are correct, it’s pretty seldom people don’t impede traffic when they stop in the middle of the highway at 7:40am

    You’d think it’s illegal, but it’s not – technically.

The MVA first say’s it’s illegal here – 155 (1) Despite anything in this Part, if a highway is marked with
    (a) a solid double line, the driver of a vehicle must drive it to the right of the line only,

Then says – it’s okay – here. 156 If the driver of a vehicle is causing the vehicle to enter or leave a highway and the driver has ascertained that he or she might do so with safety and does so without unreasonably affecting the travel of another vehicle, the provisions of sections 151 and 155 are suspended with respect to the driver while the vehicle is entering or leaving the highway.

ALTHOUGH,I would say most of the people making their coffee run into the Husky on the Hart do unreasonably affect the travel of other vehicles, but considering the RCMP CVSE don’t enforce it, it must be okay.

      People drink Mohawk coffee?

that is closer to the lights, not at the mohawk

That fire truck is parked right in front of the Mohawk.

the bike is beside the median, which is not by the Mohawk.

An SUV braked suddenly for another vehicle that was turning into the Mohawk and the biker rear ended him. Biker’s fault, but thankfully his guardian angels showed up and he is going to be ok.

It isn’t a Mohawk, it’s a Husky. Check it out on Google Earth and you can clearly see it happened in front of the Husky. The photo was taken with a telephoto lens and that creates a bit of distortion in the photo.

Over the years I have lost count of how many rear-enders I’ve seen happen here. Would be really interesting to see what fault ICBC has found in those cases.

I think by “unreasonably affecting the travel of another vehicle” the law is really talking about oncoming traffic whereby you’ve forced them to make evasive action. Otherwise it would be illegal to make any left hand turn anywhere off any highway where you have a double solid and a vehicle behind you.

It is illegal to turn left at this location if you are impeding traffic travelling in any direction.

Open your eyes complainers , pay attention who gives a shit if someone is turning into the store ,,, slow down for two seconds or change lanes ,people that complain about shit like this make me sick . find something more important to dwell on. better yet learn to drive.

Most crashes happen because there are a lot of people doing everything BUT paying attention to driving their car.

Just like it is impossible to turn left into the car dealers across from the cemetery heading into town from College Heights, it should be impossible to turn left into the Husky/A&W heading into town from the Hart. Make a dedicated left turn lane like the one at Range Road that allows traffic to get off the main part of the road.
