Fire Crews Continue to Make Progress in the Peace
Prince George, B.C. – Fire crews are expecting more help from mother nature this weekend.
Amanda Reynolds, fire information officer with the Prince George Fire Centre, says the forecast is calling for 15-20 millimetres of rain in the northeast region between tonight and tomorrow.
She says the favourable conditions have allowed fire crews to pull back a bit.
“Yeah, they’re starting to pull crews off, especially if they do get the amount of rain that’s predicted – it’s just not safe for the crews to be working, they can’t access the road.”
She says the Beatton Airport Road fire is just over 15,700 hectares and 90% contained while the 85,300-hectare Siphon Creek fire is 40% contained.
Reynolds says there are currently 34 fires burning in the Prince George Fire Centre – 27 of those in the Peace.
