Saturday, June 4, 2016 @ 6:59 AM

Prince George, B.C. – A difficult and highly-coordinated search and rescue operation has been taking place throughout the night in the Powder King area of the Pine Pass.

Late Friday night a spokesperson with Nechako Valley Search and Rescue out of Vanderhoof indicated that the team there had been called to assist Prince George SAR and Mackenzie SAR in a rescue in the vicinity of Powder King.

Just before 2 this morning Prince George Search and Rescue member Trent Blair told 250 News that one female of a 5-member hiking party had suffered a leg injury in steep terrain and was unable to hike out.

Blair says many teams banded together to first locate the injured person and then begin efforts to rescue her.  He said the rescue teams would be working through the night and possibly even through the day today.

Details on the home towns of the hikers are not yet available.
