Vigil to Remember Victims of Orlando Shooting

Monday, June 13, 2016 @ 8:42 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Prince George residents are invited to participate in a vigil tonight to remember the victims of this weekend’s horrific tragedy at a gay night club in Orlando.

The mass shooting, which claimed 50 lives and injured over 50 others, will take place at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park beginning at 7:30 p.m.

“We’ll be honouring those who lost their lives and coming together as a community to show support for Orlando and the LGBTQ community,” says organizer Krystal Vandenberg with the Northern Pride Centre, herself a member of the LGBTQ community. “For someone to hate groups that I’m part of that much and take 50 lives and probably wanted to kill more is horrifying.”

Ironically she was in her hotel room in Quesnel the morning after that city’s second pride parade when she found out.

“To go from laughing and stuff to waking up and to see the horrific news I started shaking.”
