City Hall Flags Lowered to Mark Tragedy in Orlando
Pride flag among those lowered at City Hall –
Prince George, B.C. – The City of Prince George has lowered the flags at City Hall to half-mast in recognition of the mass murder committed at a nightclub in Orlando, Florida this past weekend.
The Pride flag was also raised and then lowered to half-mast at City Hall.
49 people died, dozens more were injured when a gunman opened fire in the nightclub in Orlando on the weekend.
Here at home, painting of Prince George’s first “Pride Walk” cross-walk on George Street in front of City Hall was scheduled to start tomorrow, but may be delayed if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
Prior to the Prince George City Council meeting getting underway, Mayor Lyn Hall made this statement on behalf of Council “It doesn’t matter that it’s a thousand miles away in a different country. In this day and age of social media and other opportunities to keep up with what’s happening in the world, it has a direct impact on Prince George, it has a direct impact on our City and Province and our country. So again, on behalf of Council I want to extend our sympathies to those families who lost loved ones and certainly our best wishes to those who are still in hospital.”

A fitting tribute to the victims of this horrendous hate crime. This world needs a lot more tolerance and acceptance in it, and NOT more hatred and fear mongering!
You left out the radical Islam part.
seamutt…As you realize, that would be Politicaly incorrect to mention that.
And that is what Donald Trump is trying to relay to the Americans. Send the radicals back home and make America great again. Can you really blame him for trying to make something better. But of course there are some that say. …ho hum!!
Here is an interesting piece out of the national Post and take a note who makes a comment and what the comment is, interesting. The comment and who commented is why I thought to post this, other wise I would not have.
New statistics are sparking debate over whether Canada is ready to handle the coming influx of Muslim immigrants into the country over the next few years.
A new report called The Future of The Global Muslim Population estimates that, by 2030, there will be about 2.7 million Muslims living in Canada, and they will make up approximately 6.6. percent of the population. Currently, Muslims make up about 2.8. percent of the country’s population.
These new estimates are causing debate among analysts over whether Canada will be able to handle the more extremist members of the Muslim community.
“[What] is different from other immigrant groups is there is a subgroup among Muslims, I call Islamists, who come here with the intention of destroying the social fabric of the country,” said Tarek Fatah, founder of the Muslim Canadian Congress. “That is very unusual for an immigrant group and will be more of a problem in the future.”
Fatah argues that the Canadian educational system is particularly unequipped to deal with extremist views, nor is it equipped to counteract strong perspectives that will be instilled in many children at home.
“If a child is raised to believe that Canadian society is corrupt it is going to be hard to change them by the time they turn 20,” said Fatah. “It has to start with the schools making it clear to little children that certain ways of thinking are wrong in Canada.”
Other experts, however, are playing down the role of extremist members of the Muslim community, saying that there are often many more examples of Muslim immigrants integrating and contributing to Canadian society.

Those that gave a thumbs down, did you even read the post?
Did you read this part of your post?
“Other experts, however, are playing down the role of extremist members of the Muslim community, saying that there are often many more examples of Muslim immigrants integrating and contributing to Canadian society.”
The Donald Trumps and the fundamental extremist Muslims of this world are not the examples I am looking for. Both of them need to be socialized to fit in today’s melting pot society with its immediate world-wide communication.
France has the highest number of Muslims in western Europe – 5 to 10%
Muslims make up about 5% of the population of England and Wales. 50 years ago it was about 0.1%
Germany has about the same percentage. The influx in all cases came primarily during the 1960/70 labour migration.
The extremist fundamentalist Muslim groups that we are seeing today are a new phenomenon. They are nurtured in other parts of the world as well as small pockets of our society. Remove the conditions which cause them to thrive, and they too will go away.
It has been the way of the world since recorded time and well before that likely. It is human nature. Survival of the fittest.
