Resolutions Approved
Prince George, B.C.- Council has approved some recommendations it would like to have presented to the Union of BC Municipalities.
The first calls for the UBCM to press the Provincial Government to strike a committee to ” provide for the restoration of the Community Charitable Gaming Grant program and grants to the funding levels of 2008/2009, re-implement a 3 year grant funding model for stability of programming and provide a proportional share of the gaming revenues to community organizations so that as revenues increase, gaming grant funding increases proportionately”. Councillor Brian Skakun says charities need some certainty on their funding so they can continue their work.
The second calls for the UBCM to press the Province to develop a poverty reduction plan. “We live in one of the wealthiest provinces in Canada, we have to do better” said Councillor Murry Krause.
The third resolution asks for any revenue from a possible Federal tax on marijuana be shared with municipalities. “There are a number of initiatives we could use this for, RCMP is one” said Councillor Skakun.
Councillor Brian Skakun says another resolution which asked for more support for new farmers, may be better championed by the Regional District.
