Slip N’ Slide Set for Saturday
Prince George, B.C. – It’s been billed as “the wildest and wettest event of the summer” and it’s just two days away.
Hosted by the YMCA of Northern BC in cooperation with Fun City Sliders, a 1,000-foot slip n’ slide will be set up on University Hill Saturday.
Stephanie Mikalishen, the Y’s coordinator of philanthropic development and camp programming, says preparations are going well.
“It’s very busy, tickets are selling quickly so we’re encouraging folks to get their tickets sooner rather than later.”
(Tickets are available at www.funcitysliders.com or www.nbcy.org or if there’s any left on site the day of the event).
Mikalishen says volunteers will begin setting up the slide, section by section, early Saturday morning with the event itself running from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
“The slide is starting at the trail from the UNBC parking lot to University Way. The university has gladly donated parking for the day so folks are going to want to go up through Tyner Boulevard and park at the university and then take the little trail from the parking lot right through to University Way.”
She emphasizes the slide is safe.
“There’s been lots of questions about how safe it is so it’s inflatable – there’s a catch pool at the bottom and underneath the slide itself there’s a thick layer of foam so it’s not like a normal slip n’ slide we’d have in our backyard. It’s absolutely safe and comfortable and an absolute blast.”
Proceeds from the event will go to the YMCA Strong Campaign which will help low income families access YMCA programs at subsidized rates.
Mikalishen says they are also recruiting volunteers for the event. She encourages anyone interesting in helping out to call their office.
