Prince George, B.C. – Organizers call it an exercise in pop culture and it will be on full display on Saturday.
The second annual Zombie Fest will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. outside city hall. It will include make-up stations, a barbecue, children’s activities, live music and a zombie walk through the streets of downtown Prince George starting at noon.
The event is expected to draw over 1,000 participants including people from across the region.
“You know it’s pop culture,” says one of the organizers Mindy Colliss. “A lot of the big cities have zombie walks and such things, not so much the smaller cities like us, so I think that’s why it’s so popular because people don’t have to travel for an event like this.”
One of the major highlights will be an appearance by Juan Pareja, who played a character named Morales during the first season of ‘The Walking Dead.’
“He wasn’t killed, he was there with his family and they left the main group and the rumour is he’s coming back to the show,” says Colliss.
“He will be on the steps of city hall doing a question and answer period and then from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and he will be available for autographs and meet and greets. He’s also doing free selfies which is not common for celebrities apparently.”
She says Pareja’s appearance has been funded through a grant from the City of Prince George as Zombie Fest is a Celebrate Prince George Summer Festival event.
