Prince George B.C.- Prince George Fire Rescue crews in hazmat suits are on scene at East Central and 13th Avenue, dealing with some buckets of liquid.
RCMP Media Liaison Corporal Craig Douglass says RCMP were called to the scene around 10 this morning when some buckets were discovered behind a business at 13th and Central East.
“When officers arrived they determined the matter was beyond their scope and called Prince George Fire Rescue to assist.”
The buckets were labelled as containing Hypochlorite 12, a bleaching and disinfectant agent, but Cpl. Douglass says the contents don’t appear to match the labels. “Exercising an abundance of caution, residences in the immediate area have been evacuated.” he says as many as ten homes have been cleared to be on the safe side.
While the buckets do contain a liquid, just what the liquid is has yet to be determined. A third party company which disposes of hazardous chemicals has been called to the scene.
Cpl. Douglass says it will be at least another couple of hours before the material has been safely removed and people can return to their homes.
