Friday Free for All – July 29th, 2016

Hard to believe another month is coming to a close. But we all know what the end of the week means, it’s time for the Friday Free For All.
You pick the topic, but please, keep the comments concise, and leave out the name calling. While we my not agree with each other’s views, stick to the issue and leave the personal barbs out of it. Failure to do so will result in comments being deleted.
There are three simple rules:
Keep it clean
Keep it legal

At the top of my thoughts today for the Friday Free For All is a call out to our local city councilors to start thinking about a way to regulate the geo-tagging of Pokemon.
My wife was at the local city kids playpark the other day with some other mothers and their kids. Some creep is going around and around in the kids playground with his phone out like he is recording all the kids. The parents confronted him and he says, ‘oh, I’m just playing the Pokemon game’.
So it is these days where anyone can creep out a children’s playground, desecrate a graveyard, disrupt a church, trespass on private property, or take inappropriate pictures of others… and its all a-ok so long as they say, ‘oh I’m just playing the Pokemon game’.
It’s a game and that does not give anyone a right to be a creep with their cell phone; because it’s the new in thing.
What is needed IMO is some new regulations to govern this new phenomenon. I would propose a city bi-law that outlines areas where Pokemon can not be played… schools, playgrounds, churches, graveyards, and private property among others. Make up a list, geo-tag them, and send it in to the people that manage the Pokemon geo-tags and ask them to remove these landmarks from their game… acting in good faith to start with.
IMHO
The don’t have to say anything about Pokemon. There is no law against filming in public.
Yes as with everything these days it should regulated and …. taxed … but not before a governmental mental committee is formed to study the issue ……
As I understand it, you can report inappropriate pokestops or whatever they are and Nintendo will remove them. I think another problem we have today is that instead of actually taking action to resolve a problem, people tend to just complain about it on the Internet.
As usual, get over yourself Eagleone.
I wish one and all a safe and happy long week end.

And to you and yours too, Metalman.
On the issue of the false flag coup in Turkey. A totalitarian is born in Erdogan.
History has shown us how these tyrants come to power and the small window in which people with a conscience have to act and voice their opinions against their rise. Hitler, Stalin, Mao, they all had an inflection point in their rise to power when good people should have spoken out but didn’t.
That inflection point is now for Erdogan. Those that ignore this inflection point and ridicule the seriousness of holding a tyrant accountable in the court of public opinion… I think have no right lecturing later on about the pontification of their favorite analogies to these despots to make partisan political points.
Those that ignore the rise of Erdogan are no better than those that were silent during the rise of the likes of Hitler.
Ask yourself this. Since the rise of isis; Turkey has managed to arrest less isis fighters, and those enablers using its territory, to stage attacks in Syria, Iraq, and around the world; less isis fighters arrested than the fingers on my hand. Yet when it comes to those who oppose Erdogan ideologically he has arrested thousands within hours of the potential coup… extending into cull lists for the military, judiciary, schools, and every other aspect of Turkish secular civil society. Suspending the constitution, the rule of law, and human rights for those that Erdogan has arrested.
No arrests or attempts to contain isis, and yet the biggest cleansing of a civil society since WW2 for anyone that is secular and opposes Erdogan’s islamist rule.
Consider also that the first arrests happened as many as three hours before the coup actually started. The first generals and admirals arrested were the ones working the ‘refugee migration’ tasks in coordination with the George Soros foundation, the CIA, and the Clinton State Department.
These guys rather than having their best most dignified uniform on, standing in front of a television screen using their authority to back the coup… were instead dragged (unaware of the coup) out of their beds in their pajamas by islamist loyalists; to be detained and tortured without any civil rights or access to a judicial process to determine their guilt. They will likely be executed before they can ever speak their dark secretes in who they worked with during the refugee crisis.
A huge red flag should be why these generals and admirals were arrested prior to the coup, who wants them shut up for good, and will they ever see the light of day again… if not, why is it so important that they are never heard from again?
One has to wonder if this false flag coup is a clean-up operation after the failed policy to remove Assad from power in Syria and flood Europe with refugees… a clean-up operation to hide any uncomfortable connections to powerful globalists and their dark agenda before a presidential election in America… that NWO globalists stand to loose? Something to consider when one looks at the selection of the disappeared in Turkey.
Time Will Tell
Also in relation to Turkey… seems they have made a new alliance with Russia… the Turkish PM even called Russia a guarantor of the Turkish state. A far cry from only weeks ago when Putin was the main villain in Turkey.
Seems for Turkey’s support from Russia they have agreed to end their war on Assad… and some say leave NATO forcing the Americans out of their bases. Time will tell.
This is a power move by a modern day Cataline conspirator. A powerful ally that should not be trusted and is working all ends against each other. Turkey should be expelled from NATO before NATO has the disgrace of Turkey kicking NATO out.
Putin being no dummy I am sure Putin does not believe a word of his new ally; and is just using Erdogan’s desperation for totalitarian power to give him enough rope to hang himself in regards to respectability in the world community. Surely no one in the world believes in an honest alliance with the likes of Erdogan’s Turkey.
As Marcus Tullius Cicero once so eloquently said when confronting the Cataline conspiracy against Rome in his time two millennium ago…
“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.”
Canada could be more wise in picking its allies and entanglements in foreign conflicts.
.
Substitute Hillary for Erdogan
Looks like some of us need to read the first line in the second paragraph of the introduction to the Free for All, very slowly.
I will try to be more brief next time give more
💩 lol
I have nothing against Pokemon go personally it is an interactive game that gets a person out in the world and out and about however what I do have an issue with is the lengths “Grown Adults” will go to play the game. My neighbour found 3 twenty somethings hopping the fence in his back yard to catch a Pokemon I saw the aftermath of a pretty good fender bender when a woman while driving in a parking lot was trying to capture a Pokemon and was not paying attention to the road. There even have been reports of unauthorized access to industrial sites all in the name of catching a Pokemon.
It is unfortunate that a game that gets you out and about also gets you into a lot of trouble and I think what is even more troubling is the vast majority of people playing the game are classified as adults yet they are worse than kids and are quite incapable of using their so called brain cavities to be responsible
In the Vancouver newscast last night they had an interview with a young adult who had caught all the Pokemon in the North American version of the game – so he is flying to Europe and Australia to get the rest. Hopefully he is not collecting a welfare or EI check while cruising the globe in search of elusive Pokemon
AAHHWWW Jeeze…. can’t we all just get along ???

I just have a question. I noticed on my last Telus bill by internet charge went up another $5.00 per month. I just have the smallest package and even that is more than I need. Way to much. Does anybody out there know about a service that offers just a minimal Hi-speed service? I don’t download movies or place Pokemon, just some emailing and news. Thanks.
Funny. I just asked a question and had some positive responses but no answer. There was a negative response to a question, why is that?
The thumbs up/down system automatically starts as a 50-50 neutral position. If someone gives you a thumbs up, it will revert to 100% By the way, our subscription to the thumbs up/down rating system is coming to an end, and the feature will soon disappear.
Elaine Macdonald-Meisner
Good to hear Elaine. Outside of the obvious reasons, the Thumbs Up / Down was way too easy to manipulate. All a person has to do is clear their cookies in the browser, and you can give a thumbs up/down to one comment all day long, and it would accept the click.
I liked the idea of thumbs up and down feed back, but I think it is too easily manipulated by people that can’t just vote once.
I think some users would like the option to have maybe the first paragraph visible… with the follow on able to open in a drop down for posts the tend to be longer.
Myself I wish we had a way to register our electoral location, gender, age, and whether we are opining as a citizen or an advocacy group as part of the registration process… And then only those who are registered could vote up or down once for a post. None registered opiners could still post but would be visible as a blank entity with a psudenem only.
The potential for real data then would be enormous. Our opinions would really count then as polling companies, political parties, news media, advertisers… Etc etc could all get value out of the data that more accurately reflects political sentiment from voters in riding, age, and gender metrics.
Try light speed internet. They have a good adsl package. I plan to switch to them myself.
Not happy with Shaw it’s an open book connection like those community phone lines of the past. About as secure as a sieve. My shaw rate is $65 a month for 15mb but my speed test only ever gets 2.5mb. Light speed Internet offers 100mb for the same price. Lowest package is only $25 a month.
Do you have an address for that?
How does this Takahashi creep receive three life sentences plus 73 years for raping 30 women get granted day parole? Only in Canada..
I’m sure someone will solve this problem.
Is it because he didn’t make a victim of anyone or their family members that are responsible for making the laws that released him?
What an amazing week for human advancement this one has been . The Solar Impulse has ended its circumnavigation of the earth on its own solar produced power . And today is the grand opening of the largest factory ever built in the world . The gigafactory is up and producing . It is also slated for expansion because of increasing demand . Over 500k model3 are now reserved . What an amazing guy of Canadian heritage .
You’ve been out in the sun too long. Again.
Is this an ad???????
Are ads allowed on this comment section??
yep took that aircraft 150 days to circle the world, wow. Many breakdowns, battery replacements. Huge support crew along with a big fuel burning cargo jet. Wingspan size of a 747 but could only barely carry two. Heck no room for my suitcase. Speed of 140 k. Could only fly in equatorial areas to acquire enough sun energy.
Yep it flew around the world with zero fuel, ya right.
Has Tesla made any money yet? Oh right any day now.
Mercedes announced this week that it will go head to head with Teslas semi trailer truck by producing its own all electric semitrailer truck within five years .
Yeah and it won’t be able to haul anything as it will already be overweight with all the batteries that will be required to power the thing.
I know, the engineers at Mercedes are the stupidest people in the world.
I really do not know why they are still in business.
You can check out the Mercedes e-truck at insideevs.com . It’s real and it’s already driving around Germany ( the power house of Germany ) . Just like the tesla all electric semitrailer truck . Or you could do what most are doing , just pretend changes aren’t under way .
We should be doing LNG trucks here in northern BC. Build the industry up from the ground and make BC the centre of excellence in big rig LNG technology and production.
They could start with incentives to the big fleet companies to test them here in the north and build out from there. The potential for BC would make LNG exports seem like the low hanging fruit that it is. LNG trucks could handle the northern winters just fine and really clean up the actual pollution rather than just talking and taxing carbon.
Ataloss, you are plugged in (no pun intended) into the reality of ongoing advancement in the technology of electric power generation and storage from solar, wind, wave, tidal and geothermal resources – you are up-to-date! I have seen videos of electric Mercedes Benz trucks in action. In fact a test strip on the German Autobahn has overhead power (like trains)and the MB truck can run on diesel until it is underneath the overhead wires and connect to them. Then the fossil fuel stinker is given a rest. Soon the MB trucks will do the same on batteries.
Do not let the thumbs-downs and ridicule get to you! Have a great weekend and keep the good alternate energy news coming!
No worries PrinceGeorge . I like the thumbs down that I get when revealing reality . The icecar salesmen vote electrics with thumbs down for good reason . Vested interest that is . They can’t make money on them , that’s the rub .
Here is the kicker on that M-B truck, M-B says that its eTruck is designed for inner-city transport. Therefore, its short range won’t be an issue.
So short range, time to recharge cutting into cargo hauling time.
That may be true for a shared operator truck, but not for a single operator who has limited hours they are allowed to drive. The rest of the time the vehicle sits idle.
What limited hours? An 8,10,12 hour shift are not limited hours. yes there will be some use for electric but unless there becomes some rewrite in physics for energy density fossil fuels will be in demand for transportation for a long time yet.
A tesla carries 1000 lbs of batteries that’s a lot of weight now upscale to a trans port truck batteries will cut into payload.
Wrong again . The modelS battery weight is 1200 lbs . ModelS peers are high end , high performance road legal race cars . You have to include the weight of the ICE engine , transmission, driveshaft , transfer , oil , lube etc, and subtract that from the equation .
gopg2015, the trucking industry is a 24/7 operation, not a 12/7 operation. Trucking companies can’t afford to have a truck sitting half the time being plugged in recharging the batteries.
Most local trucks other than chip haulers only work half the day anyways and the weight of the batteries would be a none issue. Probably would do alright on flat ground, but I think they would fail after repeat hill climbing here in the north. Our roads aren’t laid out for electric load hauling here in BC.
Those electric trucks are used to make daytime deliveries to businesses which are closed at night – the kicker is that the vehicle will be plugged in for overnight recharging! No loss of business! They would eliminate a lot of air pollution from the downtown of a city.
Think positive! Think with a positive attitude about future advancements which will come in spite of negativity! Think clean air, clean soil and clean water!
Wonder when electric vehicles will start paying road tax of some sort and start paying their way? Oh wait they can only survive with a free ride on taxes.
Why do people have to enter the exit at the Eastway Esso on Boundry road? There will be an accident there soon….wait for it! Ever since the traffic circle was introduced, alot of people just dont take the extra 30 seconds and go round the circle. No they get into the wrong lane and sneak into the exit! Dumb!👿
What was with the high speed chase at 3 this morning on North Nechako Road. Between the car chases and the CN trains blowing their horns for 15 seconds at a time, there is no peace out there.
Never live beside a river, train tracks, bottom of a mountain, or a hwy. If you do you get what you asked for.
As a follow up to Eagleone’s concerns about Pokémon. Some legal and safety issues starting to emerge with the Pokémon craze.
Traveling across the land, searching far and wide hasn’t exactly worked out for all Pokémon Go users. After luring victims to their location with the new “augmented reality” app, four suspects have been arrested as police in O’Fallon, Mo., responded to a report of an armed robbery early Sunday.
The teens, whose ages range from 16 to 18, are suspected to be behind 10 to 11 armed robberies in St. Louis and St. Charles counties in which they allegedly used the app to bait victims, according to Sgt. Bill Stringer. Police also recovered a handgun from the suspects’ black BMW.
“The way we believe (the app) was used is you can add a beacon to a Pokéstop to lure more players,” the O’Fallon Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.

Morning,
BC hydro rate hike for 2017 at 4%?? I am so angry with this system, this monopoly, the fact that they can treat you like garbage because they think they got you by the….
New goal get off this grid train!!!
Hey its the government robbing Hydro, think of it as a tax increase. Also have to pay for the very expensive power from IPP’s and wind farms some how.
What’s wrong with having a place to vent?
You don’t build up any equity?
If you can live cheaper off the grid let us know how you make out? Besides I like the convenience of just a light switch on the wall with out all issues needed to be off grid.
Waiting for Ataloss to say how he does it.
Kind of strange to see all the thumbs down ratings on the Native Fastball Tournament story. Seems to be a lot of plain old cranky people in this town.
They should change the name of this site from 250 News to Curmudgeon’s Corner. I can’t imagine what a person would have to post on here that would receive 100 percent thumbs up.
Friday free for all has turned into political Cut and Paste time. It’s nice to get the weekly “Have a good weekend” chant from metalman. He still got a thumbs down.
I remember years ago a certain movie critic, when asked about two of his fellow critics & how they arrived at some of their ratings, replied that if you removed their thumbs they would not be able to express an opinion. Nice to hear Elaine is removing the thumbs up/down option here. Oh wait, how ever will I know if I’m relevant or not…. 😈
So Berman lake used to be a nice quiet spot for canoeing, fishing now its getting dam dangerous with the high powered boats charging around on that little lake.
Someone must have had the ear of who ever makes the rules for these lakes. It used to have a horsepower restriction and also now has lots of development on the lake.
Call in and file a complaint.
So these 2 drug addicted Jihadists walk out of a BC court free and clear. Wow. That is incredible. I recommend that they lock those 2 up in an institution and help them to get their heads on straight. If I get a speeding ticket and a cop is hiding from me, isn’t that entrapment?
If you had a video recording of said cop encouraging you to speed at that very moment, yes it would be entrapment. Otherwise you are responsible for your own actions.
“If I get a speeding ticket and a cop is hiding from me, isn’t that entrapment?” No it isn’t. A closer parallel to this case would be they buy you a fast car, gas it up for you, tell you they need you at a time and place only attainable by speeding, and threaten to kill you if you aren’t there; off you go, and then they give you a speeding ticket.
The two losers in this case need help and still do; life in prison for these low IQ drug addicts is an outcome not worthy of our society. On their own they were no kind of threat to anyone but themselves.
CL
Cops entrapped them. Judge says the cops are guilty. Go back to bed.
The judge said they couldn’t have done it on their own without help. Well, they hatched the idea on their own, they were looking for help. I have to think if the cops hadn’t stepped in, they very well could have found real help with disastrous consequences.
I agree. They would have connected to someone with like ideas and means, to really do some damage.
Im quite suprised by most of the negative feedback topics like electric vehicles and alternative energy sources get in these free for all’s. Im assuming there are a fair amount of people in there 50’s and older here so when you look back at our advancements in your lifetime arent you a little bit impressed? Sure it took the solar plane a long time to go around the globe but its now been done and next time it will be faster and smaller. And yes they do rewrite physics from time to time. If the last 50 years were this good i can only imagine the next 50 to be amazing. Oh and i love pokeman go!
Age has little to do with ideology . I’m an atheist in my mid sixties . So that’s one door that doesn’t get in the way of my logic . The changes ,most for the better , that I’ve seen impress me greatly . We owe most of the gains in our collective technology to the space industry , including our method of communicating in this medium that we are using at this second .
Well when one points out how Alternate energy sources are costly, inefficient, and unreliable with proof all one gets is attitude.
Energy density is fixed from the sun, smaller and faster cannot happen because of energy density. The google plane for internet might work though.
I’m quite happy to pay the hydro rates that we have in B.C. I am appreciative of all the opportunities presented to me and my family by living in Prince George and British Columbia!
Yeah, but you say Baaa Baaa every morning before you get out of bed.
Welp, the Christy Clark government just cost us dearly!!! Their newly introduced foreign ownership tax on property is in violation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). We are going to get our a$$es sued off and there is nothing we can do about it!
Thanks for nothing Christy Clark and Company, maybe next time do your homework!!!
ht tp://business.financialpost.com/fp-comment/barry-appleton-b-c-just-violated-nafta-with-its-foreign-property-tax-and-we-could-all-pay-for-it
I hate Clark and the Liberals as much as the next person, but this kind of fear mongering is complete crap.
Americans are not buying up the GVRD. They can get more house for the dollar in their own country, so why would they give a damn? Besides I think most Americans would buy in Whistler or the Island, where this tax does not apply.
As for the Chinese Gov’t, they won’t care if this helps keep more money in their country. I highly doubt you’ll hear a peep.
Ummm… so what part of the Christy Clark government’s foreign property tax being in VIOLATION of NAFTA are you not understanding? When parties who sign agreements are are found to be in violation of those agreements penalties will need to be paid, and America is the most litigious country in the world. You would think decades in courts over the Softwood Lumber Agreement would have taught us that by now!
Ummm… what part of the Canadian Constitution do you not understand JGalt?
The Constitution allows Provinces to impose taxes to raise revenue for provincial purposes. By stating the new 15% tax is for improving lower income housing in BC, that i is dotted and the t is crossed.
Your argument is like saying BC will get sued for a sales tax because Alberta doesn’t have one.
Next.
Ummm… when international trade agreements undermine the constitutions and sovereignty of countries that sign those agreements. We are already locked into FIPA with China for a minimum 30 years (that is how long minimum notice must be provided)… just wait until the TPP Trade Deal gets ratified, it will be international corporations first, countries last!
Where do dual citizens fit in christy ? If my idea of a cabin at the lake is a condo seldom used on the north shore , what business is that of yours ?

Pack some bear mace , don’t be like the idiot that thought he could run through a forest and wind up getting a bear killed.
Bear mace, a rifle, little bells, smelly fish, and the list goes on.
It doesn’t matter where you are in the bush, bears are here, we come in to contact with wildlife of all kinds.
Running, it’s difficult to have situational awareness, just gotta run faster than your buddy. This is far to common an occurrence in the last few years, no matter where you are in BC.
Gold panning, I’ve got my rifle close, but when they rush you, you don’t have a chance in hell.
Funny. Your comment reminded me of what my four year old said yesterday picking blueberries. We had a bear stalking from the bush, and the kid whispers in my ear, “daddy I will go in the bush over there and chase him out to you and you shot him ok”… I was like,”no I got a better plan” lol. So we packed up and headed out of there to leave the bear alone.
Good move! You got a funny boy!
WHEREAS, Secretary of State John F. Kerry has suggested that air conditioners are as big a threat as ISIS, and
WHEREAS, it is the duty of our elected and appointed government officials to lead by example,
THEREFORE, we call upon the U.S. Department of State to remove air conditioning from all property that the Department owns, rents, or otherwise employs, including but not limited to embassies, consulates, office buildings, etc., all vehicles owned and/or operated by the Department, and any other property, real or movable, owned, rented, or otherwise employed by the Department.
ht tps://www.change.org/p/remove-air-conditioning-from-all-us-state-department-property
===========================================================
I have to wonder why a petition is necessary. If Secretary Kerry truly believes what he said, one would think he would already have banned all air conditioning from anything and any place he has authority over.
How about the local warmists? Are you practicing what you believe? Surely none of you uses air conditioning, right?
Trump is against NAFTA, and surprise surprise so is the career criminal Hillary.
