Dawson Road Work to Start
Prince George, BC- It is a road that has been in need of repair for some time, and it is on the capital plan for 2016, but was conspicuously missing from the major projects list issued last week ( see previous story).
Dawson Road, which runs north-south from East Austin Road has as many dips as a roller coaster. Residents in the area were relieved to see it was on the list of $7 million dollars worth of road rehab projects for 2016 but no sign of the work crews, at least not yet.
The fly in the ointment for this road rehab project is a new 5 lot subdivision at the corner of Dawson and East Austin Road. Council has just given third reading to the bylaw clearing the way for that development.
“Crews are expected to start the connections to City services for that subdivision this week” says Mick Jones of the City’s Streets Division. He says the connections are very deep, so before any surface work can be done, there will have to be a deep dig at that corner to align the connections with the planned subdivision. Jones says the connections are about 20 feet below the road surface.
That means, Dawson Road will be closed at East Austin until the lines have been laid. He is hopeful the connection work can be done this week and the paving contractor can get the surface work done before school starts as Glenview Elementary is just off Dawson Road.
