Prince George, B.C. – The UNBC men’s soccer Timberwolves are kicking off their fifth season of Canada West competition with a weekend doubleheader against the Trinity Western University Spartans.

The home opener went Friday night at the North Cariboo Senior Soccer League fields, with the visitors coming from behind to score a 2-1 victory before about 200 fans.   The Timberwolves took the lead in the 14th minute on a goal from Cheona Edzerza, but Trinity Western tied it at the 25:33 mark off the boot of Elijah Adekugbe.

Cody Fransen scored the only goal of the second half to win it for the visitors in the 75th minute.  Trinity Western took nine shots on goal as UNBC keeper Mitch MacFarlane made seven saves.  To give some indication of the territorial edge in play, the Timberwolves had three shots on the Spartans’ goal.

The back end of this weekend’s doubleheader goes tonight at 7 before the Timberwolves head off to UBC for a pair of games next weekend.

UNBC’s women’s side opens its season at home with a pair of games against clubs from Manitoba the second weekend of September.  They face Winnipeg the night of Friday, Sept. 9th and then host Manitoba at noon Sunday Sept. 11th.
