Prince George, B.C. – The Cops for Cancer Tour de North has officially begun.
Over 20 riders were given a send-off at Heritage Elementary School this morning before beginning the first leg of their journey to Vanderhoof.
The seven-day ride will cover over 750 km before wrapping up in Prince Rupert on September 22nd.
Proceeds from the event will go towards pediatric cancer research and to send sick kids to Camp Goodtimes.
Organizers say the Tour de North has raised more than $2.3 million over the past 14 years.

THAT STRETCH IS VERY BUSY, GOOD LUCK AND TAKE CARE
I wonder why the cops felt it necessary to blow through the 4 way stop at Vancouver and 4th without stopping in order to attend this event.
Very impressive group. 2.3 Million. WOW! Wish them all the best, safe trip, come home safe!
I think this is a great event, however, I do wonder what the cost is to hold this each year. Are the 20 riders paid their wages or is this unpaid leave?, costs associated with having 1 to 2 police vehicles travel with the riders, lodging, and food. I would like to know as a tax payer how much I/we pay to hold this annual event and then minus that from the reported money raised for a more accurate report. With that said good like riders and be safe.
