IMAGINE Community Grants Up for Grabs
Prince George, B.C. – Northern Health is taking applications for its annual IMAGINE Community Grants.
The public health care provider will provide up to $5,000 for grassroots projects that improve the health of northerners.
Those eligible include community organizations, service agencies, First Nations organizations, schools, municipalities, regional districts, and other partner groups that promote healthier communities.
The grants will go to projects that focus on the following areas:
- Healthy eating and food security
- Physical activity and active living
- Injury prevention
- Tobaccos-free communities
- Positive mental health
- Prevention of substance harms
- Healthy early childhood development
- Healthy aging

The application period runs from today through October 31, 2016. This is the second round of applications this year. In April the first round of grants totalled over $340,000 and went to 91 projects in 46 communities.
While I understand funding from one source is often used in conjunction with funding from other sources, the maximum amount $5,000 for these community health initiatives seems kind of low. But then again, most of us know health care is being underfunded, while others think an oversized, and priced, health care management / administration is also to blame.
