University Students Hosting Give Back Festival
Prince George, B.C. – UNBC students will be out in force today displaying their appreciation to the people of Prince George for the support shown them.
The president of the Northern Undergraduate Student Society, Arctica Cunningham, says “we’re doing our annual charity event called Northern Students Give Back, previously known as Shinerama, and this is an opportunity for UNBC students to give back to the Prince George community. Because Prince George is so supportive of our university all year around, we really try to put in a concerted effort once a year to go out and give something back to the community.”
“We choose a local charity to help support every year and this year the charity that we’ve chosen is AIMHI. We have a variety of events planned to help raise money for them. We’ve already done some of those events but the main fundraiser is happening today from 10 am till about 3 pm.
“There’s going to be a couple of carwashes happening, a community barbeque and kid’s games, kind of a celebration at Lheidli T’enneh Park with lots of live music and other entertainment provided. All of the activities at the park will be by donation so if people want to participate we just ask that they give some money to support AIMHI. Then they’re welcome to participate in the face painting, watching the drama skits that are happening (put on by the UNBC drama club), getting some food from the barbeque, things like that.”
Cunningham also says “a number of stores have supported us by allowing us to set up shop at their storefront to collect donations from people who are doing their Saturday shopping.”
The car washes will be taking place at two locations: the Husky gas station at Highway 97 and Chief Lake Road in the Hart and Ruckus on 15th Avenue. The hours for both are 10 am to 3 pm today.
