Telus Outage Affecting Thousands

Wednesday, September 21, 2016 @ 2:25 PM

Prince George, B.C. – A major inconvenience today for Telus customers.

The Canadian telecommunications company has confirmed about 4,500 of its residential and business customers are experiencing a power outage.

“The outage was caused by a third-party accidentally cutting through our cable and disrupting service,” says Telus spokesman Richard Gilhooley. “Our crews are working hard to restore service ASAP, and thus far everything has been going well.”

He anticipated groups of customers will start to see their service restored starting in the next few hours and expects service could be fully restored sometime around midnight tonight.

My entire office got sent home from work – can’t do anything without our servers working….

We had noticed this before 9am; strangely, we had internet & tv still available.

I guess the 9-1-1 text service just mentioned, will only work if the telephone network is actually working too?

With Shaw, this is a weekly event.

Shut down the airport also. You think there would be redundant fiber run, I’m sure it all about the cost.
I wonder if this had to do with the work being done on Willow Cale road at he same time?

Hard to believe in this day and age underground utilities, power lines, etc still get struck.
