CNIB ‘Night Steps’ Fundraiser Tonight

Saturday, October 1, 2016 @ 6:50 AM

Prince George, B.C. – The Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) will host its annual fundraiser in Prince George tonight.

‘Night Steps’ is a 5 km walk that raises funds to help change the lives of those who are blind and partially sighted.

It will take place at Masich Place Stadium. Registration and a barbecue begins at 5:30 p.m. with the walk to follow at 6:30 p.m.

“The walk is under the stars so it will be starting to get dark at that point and by the time we’ve finished it should be pitch black,” says CNIB spokesperson Carrera Teal. “And the reason for this is it gives us an idea of what it’s like to not perhaps see the ground from underneath your feet and to to think a little more about where you’re going.”

She says last year’s inaugural event raised $19,000 with proceeds to going towards supporting CNIB services. Teal estimates CNIB serves roughly 1,500 clients, from kids to the elderly, in northern B.C.
