Rock Slide Slows Traffic West of Jasper

Saturday, October 8, 2016 @ 6:36 PM

Prince George, B.C. – A rock slide in Jasper National Park has resulted in traffic delays along Highway 16 between BC and Alberta.

The DriveBC website indicates the slide occurred west of Jasper but does not say when it occurred or how large it is.  The site says the highway is reduced to single lane, alternating traffic and that the estimated time for a full re-opening of the route is on Tuesday.

A spokesperson with the RCMP in Jasper also could not give details about the slide, saying the RCMP are not on scene and have not had a hand it dealing with it because it is located within the park.  He does say the slide occurred on the Alberta side of the border with BC and that park officials would be handling the movement of traffic.
