Cougars Win Streak Ends

Wednesday, October 12, 2016 @ 5:45 AM

It took nine games but the Prince George Cougars have their first loss of the 2016-17 season. Tuesday night at the CN Centre the Everett Silvertips handed the Cougars a 4-0 defeat. Sean Richards had a goal and an assist for Everett while goaltender Carter Hart made 19 saves to secure the shutout victory. Everett scored three of their four goals in the first half of the second period.
After a scoreless first, Everett struck just 63 seconds into the second period to get themselves on the board. Devon Skoleski crashed the net and flipped home a Graham Millar rebound over Ty Edmonds and home for his third of the season.

Sean Richards made it 2-0 for the visitors at the 5:55 mark of the second and then Dominic Zwerger netted his third of the campaign off a clear-cut breakaway at 9:51 to put the Silvertips ahead 3-0, which is how the second period would end. Through two periods Everett held a 19-14 edge in shots.

With less than a minute to go in the third period Everett padded their lead to 4-0 thanks to Brett Kemp’s second goal of the season off a Noah Juulsen rebound.

Everett finished the game with a 27-19 shot advantage. Goaltender Carter Hart turned aside all 19 shots he faced while his counterpart Ty Edmonds went 23-for-27.

The biggest bright spot for the Cougars: The penalty kill, which went a flawless six-for-six and is now 41-for-42. Everett went two-for-two on their penalty kills.

Next up for the Cougars: A rematch with the Silvertips Wednesday night at 7:00 PM at CN Centre.

NOTES:

The Cougars eight-game winning streak marks the second longest in the history of the franchise.
The Cougars have killed off 22 straight penalties dating back to September 28th in Kelowna.

Think maybe they got a little too cocky and had their butt handed to them?

I will however give them credit for a much better showing this year than in years past. So far.

Probably relieved to have lost. An undefeated streak brings way too much pressure.

Totally agree, now that it’s out of the way they can focus on the next game. Also the added pressure of everyone saying that Everitt would be the true test of how good the Cougars are (or are not), sort of a self fulfilling prophesy. Great job so far…GO CATS!!!!

8 out of 9 is still pretty impressive. was a boring game to watch, to defensive of a game. Not Cougars style. I guess this is something the coach can work on. Have too style of games to deal with New Jersey Devils type of team.

I think they need to paste them onto the boards tonight, and see if they want to play a hard hitting game. Need to rattle them off of their game, and catch a few breakaways.

Got tickets for the game tonight, and am looking forward to seeing how they respond to the first loss (and shutout).

GO CATS GO!!!
