Burns Lake, B.C. – The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman struck and killed by a train earlier this month.
She was 44-year-old Burns Lake resident Margaret Alice West.
It was just after noon on October 8, 2016, when West and two companions were on foot, crossing the railway tracks near the intersection of Highway 16 and Francois Lake Road in Burns Lake.
A VIA passenger train was proceeding westbound to Prince Rupert on the track. The companions were able to get off the tracks before the train came, but tragically West was unable to do so and was struck by the engine. She was deceased at the scene.
The BC Coroners Service and the RCMP continue to investigate.
