Good morning to all my friends in Prince George. I started this blog yesterday when an item appeared of the thousands that would attend to days ceremony in the Civic Center but the response was not great.
This being Remembrance Day I would like to remind people who our Veterans really are. I will leave out World War I as there are no more veterans alive of that conflict.
However World War II is different. There Were 1000 Canadian casualties on the first day on the landing at Normandy. By the end of the year the Nazi army was no more. There were 40,000 Canadian that gave their lives in World War II. The war provide ”democracy “ for millions of people in Europe. Those that came home were our Veterans . The cost of the war was about 3 billion dollars
The Korean War that was referred to in the history as the Forgotten War. There were 1500 casualties of which 516 were fatal . The war lasted for three years and the result was “democracy” for the people of South Korea. And again those that came home were our veterans. The cost was about 3 billion (?).
Now here’s the crunch. DND tells us that there were 1859 casualties in the Afghanistan war . Of those 1244 were none battle injuries 615 were wounded in action and there were 158 deaths in the nine years of war. Veterans affairs calls them the “new Veterans”. and at the end of this war a revolution got underway. Cost of the war was 18 billion.
I would think that the UN would know better then to become involved in these religious wars . And Canada just followed suite.
We must remember who our “Veterans” really are.

Sure glad of way I was raised that I carry on the Tradition of today, going as a family. Despite my grown children, we still go as a family to remember those that fought for our freedoms and gave their lives. I wonder if all the troubled people causing the world turmoil if they had this type of upbringing… VALUES
After the results in the us election–it’s time we as Canadians start to take note of the bigotry and racism that is coming out in people; in this country too. And I think it’s high time tospeak out against such attitudes! We as a country are based on immigration; it’s time to remember past history and how this country came to be. Most of us have forefathers that came from other lands. Together we have made this our country.

It does appear that the worst offenders are democratic party supporters in the US, and those who just want any excuse to riot. Good thing they lost power in the white house, their system needs a complete rethink.
It could be worse. At least the Democrat supporters leave their guns at home.
They don’t need guns to commit crimes against the property of others. Packing a gun would just weigh them down while they’re looting, and besides if one of them does get shot by a cop while unarmed that just provides another opportunity for another riot and more looting.

Right. I wonder if you would feel this way if the shoe had been on the other foot and it was “Republicans” protesting and rioting over a “rigged” election because DT lost? Or would you suddenly be defending their constitutional rights to protest against a broken system?
I’m pretty sure it would have been option 2, but we will never know for sure now.
If you think it’s bad now, just wait and see what happens if Trump tries to do some of the things that he said he would do. Many of those positions are simply impossible to reconcile with what significant numbers of people down there will tolerate.
I’m certainly not saying the US is at that point or that they will even get there (let’s sure hope not), but it’s way too simplistic and naive to not consider the possibility given the platform that he ran on and the expectations of certain segments of the population that helped put him in power.

Amazing, how you conveniently left out the period of time where George “Dubya” Bush got elected in trying to build your fallacious case. There were no riots or demonstrations by Democrats when he won, even though there were plenty of accusations of voter irregularities during those elections.
So what is different between the two elections you brought up, the two elections I bring up and this one? The answer is is that in the other four elections, none of the contenders ran campaigns as vicious, divisive and hateful as Donald Trump did in appealing to the worst elements in people. His vitriol and his extremism in what passed for “policy”, during his campaign, generated a lot of fear and loathing and it is not going to be easy to get it back in the bottle.
I don’t think it helps their cause, but I can certainly understand why they are doing what they’re doing. Trump fed a fear and hate machine and right now it is paying out in those people acting the way they are. As long as Trump doesn’t do something stupid it will, eventually, burn itself out, as even those people will have to come to the realization that they are stuck with the man.

Leftys have a history of violence and rioting. Just because they don’t do it every time they don’t get their way does not detract from the fact that they do it often.

I watched the same campaign as you did and what I saw was the Democrats stooping to engage in a mud-slinging campaign as a response to Donald Trump’s campaign, which was coarse, crass and vicious right from the time he announced as a candidate for the Republican leadership.
The Democrats knew that taking the high road against someone engaging in a mud fight would be a waste of time, so they decided to go low as well. They just couldn’t go to the depths he was able to go and appeal to racists and xenophobes, on top of the normal American electorate.
And, yes, you did conveniently try to ignore two entire election cycles to try to “prove” that Democrats are the only ones that would protest and/or riot over an election result, when it is clear that there are a unique set of circumstances, touched off by Trump himself, that have set the stage for what is occurring right now.
Trump is just showing that he is truly a man of the people by giving people a place to protest in most of the major cities not only in the states but around the world.
By design he has places buildings near the center of these cities and to make them easier to find has made them tall. As protesters get closer he guides them in with YUGE letters T R U M P….with Vancouver being the exception where the letters are covered by tarps.
As he will put his holdings in a “blind trust” he will not realize the millions going up in smoke as the booking in these hotels dry up…..people flocking to other hotels to avoid the protests that will surely happen over the next four years.

The last time the republicans in the states controlled all three levels of their government was 1928 . A year later The Great Depression began . this time they should call it like it is The Great Fleecing . The Great Depression began as what we now call just an ordinary recession. Back then they were all called depressions. They happen quite often, they’re an economic correction. Just off the top of my head, my numbers might be slightly off but unemployment reached a high of 9% and as the economy recovered it had dropped to 6% when Democrat FDR was elected. He decided to interfere in the economy to “help” the recovery. As a result, unemployment rose to 25% and stayed there for years.

They (say) they believe in ‘equality’, for instance, and doing everything possible to maintain it. I remember thinking when my son was around 17 or 18 years old. “Wow not so long ago boys your age were going off to war. Watching you get ready to go out with your friends for the evening. You are still a boy yourself. How hard it would be to say goodbye to you as you leave to go and fight. You would have been brave but I know you would have been scared. You still need me to talk to, spend time with and ask advice from and yes even hugs. This might be the last time I see you. I am so scared of losing you but you are the one who has to go and fight, lay in cold wet ditches and be afraid for your life. Never a day would go by that I would not think of you. You are so young”.
I am so thankful to all men and women who served, fought and died for everyone. So my boy could stay home and go to school, have fun, get a job and live a good life.

The contrast has never been so great between what our veterans sacrificed for; and what our politicians are willing to sign away in deals like CETA and TPP with kangaroo style investor state resolution tribunals that supersede our own constitution, laws and Supreme Court.
On this day I think it is important to remember the sacrifices our past generation made to hand us this finest nation in the world; but also to reflect on the question if we have done enough ourselves to protect that legacy from those that would undermine our country from abroad, but also from within.

I think Remembrance Day is in one way a very apt time to protest against those who are positioning themselves to remove some of the rights that people have given their lives to protect …..
in the USA that means “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Of course, we have people like eagleone and other Trump followers who interpret that since all men are created equal they must all have the same understanding of what “happiness” is forgetting that they are at “liberty” to determine that for themselves without sacrificing their “life” just to survive under a government which appears to be ready to take 10 steps backwards because of a new “elite” who feel they have been deprived of their personal “pursuit of happiness” and are willing to undo that of others to get it.

Release of his tax returns becomes even more import to see if there are any other direct connections with Putin and his cronies.

US Presidential pardons can be applied to any offenses that may have been committed up to the time of the pardon, whether or not the person has been convicted, whether or not the person has even been charged.

Markets are reacting because the insurance companies were going bankrupt under Obamacare, and they anticipate a change in policy that allows them to operate a market business. Also many American companies will see a tax rate cut from 35% down to 15% and this will represent a huge growth in profits, and thus a change in earnings to share price ratio’s… Even if it represents a fiscal deficit for government books. American based companies are now leading the stock market charge.
First off name one insurance company that “was” in receiverships or even near ? Even if the drop in tax rate was truely going to happen it wouldn’t be cooked in , in the last three sessions . He is going to declare a country that is one of the largest holders of U.S debt instruments a currency manipulator. That is how f***ing out of touch with reality the man is.
And just HOW is the USA going to repay those “debt instruments” to that country that’s one of the largest holders of them, Hahaha? The ONLY way it can do that is to have a so-called “favourable” trade balance with them for awhile. The kind of trade deals Trump wants to end are those that enslave the workforce of the exporting country and impoverish the workforce of the importing one. These three agreements will provide the legal framework for NGOs and multinationals (aka, transnational companies and international banks) to act with impunity across all borders without jurisdictional control, and if passed, these agreements give NGOs and those acting in concert with multinationals/international banks the right to change the laws of this country without any interference from the US Supreme Court, or the people of the USA. Any Congressman (Representative or Senator) who demands to see the TISA today has to meet Michael Froman in a guarded room in DC (when he deigns to return to the US) without a phone, camera, and or the ability to take notes, for a total of 45 minutes only.

One of the biggest problems is that young healthy people are not signing up but rather choosing to pay the minimal penalties for not having health insurance. This leaves the people that use a lot of the services raising the costs for the health care providers. Add to this the many people who have not had health care for years so they did not enjoy the benefits of preventative health care so now any conditions they do have are more expensive to treat.
Over the long term costs would have been reduced as people received regular treatment. Raising the penalties high enough to make it a no brainer not to have health care would also help.
When I think of no coverage for pre-existing, lifetime limits, no access to certain treatments if they are expensive,etc I am sure glad for the coverage on this side of the 49th. Is is not perfect but alot better than the US system
Our system is set up to treat certain diseases in priority to treating the patients. If you’re suffering from the right disease, it can serve you well. Wrong disease, go to the back of the line and hope you don’t die before they get to you.
Aside from that, the fatal flaw with Medicare when it was first introduced was it was another attempt to re-distribute an overall, and ever growing, insufficiency of incomes relative to overall costs flowing through into prices. The basic idea of the “well” keeping the “sick” is wonderful, but the financing was flawed hopelessly from day one. So now, year by year, we are forced to pay more, while in terms of services, we get less. Not sustainable long term like that.
So what is your solution to our medicare system being unsustainable? Termination as soon as a person gets sick and presents a burden to the still healthy?

They were expressing freedom of speech and their right to assembly. The protest was mostly peaceful, rioting might be an overstatement considering the actions of an isolated few. When Obama won in 2012 here are some of the quotes from Donald Trump’s twitter feed. “We can’t let this happen we should march on Washington and stop this travesty. Our nation is totally divided” he went on to tweet “we should have a revolution” and about how the electoral vote was a sham because the Republicans lost. Remember this is the same guy who said he would not accept the outcome of the election unless he won. He ran a dirty campaign the likes of which America has never seen rife with racism, misogyny and gutter politics. No wonder there are protests, and I say good on them as the world has to stand up to the Trumps of the world. In fact I applaud them.
An isolated few? That would be a few dozen, right?
Trump said he might not accept the outcome if he lost. That is, if it was rigged against him. The left/Democrats were “outraged”! For this he was roundly condemned by them and the media, who seemed to forget that their darling candidate Al Gore refused to accept his loss to Bush.
Now the very people who were outraged at him are refusing to accept the outcome of the election. Can you say hypocrites?
Trump never had any intention of accepting the outcome if he lost. The guy is a massive narcissist. There was no way in Hell that he would have ever admitted that he lost to some personal failing. He would have always blamed it on some external factor such as election “rigging” or poor advisers or the world was against him. It always would have been someone else’s fault. We were just saved from a disgusting spectacle by the American electorate collectively losing its mind.
