Cougars Lose to Everett
Saturday night in Everett, WA the Prince George Cougars had their four game winning streak snapped at the hands of the Everett Silvertips.
Carter Hart turned aside all 26 shots fired his way to lift the Silvertips to their third consecutive victory against the Cougars this season. Montana Oneybuchi’s early first period goal proved to be the winner.
Onyebuchi’s point shot snuck it’s way through Cougars starter Ty Edmonds at the 4:21 mark of the first period to stake the home team to a 1-0 lead. The Cougars responded well and outshot the Silvertips 12-7 in the first, but couldn’t solve Carter Hart.
Neither goaltender would relent in the second period as both Hart and Edmonds were solid for their respective teams. Both sides finished checks and battled hard in a game that had that distinct playoff feel to it.
Early in the third though Everett increased their lead to 2-0 when Bryce Kindopp skated in alone and snuck a shot through the legs of Edmonds for his third of the season.
An empty netter at 18:54 from Patrick Bajkov sealed the deal handing Everett their 18th victory moving them two points ahead of the Cougars for the top spot in the Western Conference standings.
Prince George finished the game ahead 26-21 in the shots department and a perfect five-for-five on the penalty kill. The Cougars went zero-for-two on the power play, neither of which lasted a full two minutes.
Here’s the good news: The Cougars don’t have much time to dwell on Saturday’s loss as they’ll return to action Sunday at 2:00 PM in Portland against the Winterhawks.
