City Congratulates Tom Dielissen
Members of Council and friends, congratulate Tom Dielissen on receiving the Sovereign Medal for Volunteers.
Prince George, B.C. – City Council started its final meeting of 2016 by celebrating Tom Dielissen’s most recent achievement.
Mayor Lyn Hall read a letter from the Governor General,David Johnston, and praised Dielissen for his countless years of volunteerism prior to presenting the Sovereign Medal for Volunteers which is an award from the office of the Governor General of Canada.
The medal is a national honour which recognizes volunteers who “selflessly offer their time and efforts in contribution to their community.”
Dielissen’s volunteer service in Prince George spans several decades and includes service with:
- Exploration Place
- the PG Public Library
- Theatre North West,
- UNBC’s Timberwolves Athletic Association,
- the City of Prince George’s Winter Cities and Winter Lights Committees,
- St. John’s Ambulance,
- the PG Region Development Corporation,
- the PG Film Commission,
- the McGregor Model Forest Association,
- the Northern BC Winter Games,
- Summer Fest
The medal ( shown at right) is awarded to individuals only, not to groups or couples.
The Sovereign Medal for Volunteers is the second honour for Tom Dielissen this year.
In May, Dielissen, was awarded a BC Community Achievement Award which recognizes those who have made a significant contribution to their community either as volunteers or in the course of their work.

I absolutely love it when we get the chance to recognize our own around here! Tom (and so many others like him) donate countless hours to charities in our community and to have a national honour like the Sovereign’s Medal awarded to him just seems to me, to be a perfect way to head into the holidays. Congratulations Tom and thank you for all that you do!
