Mounties Rescue Two Men Stranded on Cottonwood River Ice
Quesnel, B.C. – Some tense moments this morning as the Quesnel RCMP rescued two men stranded on ice.
Sgt. Chris Riddle says the men were involved in a single-vehicle collision this morning on Quesnel-Hixon Road near the Cottonwood River Bridge at around 10:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, he says police saw the two men helpless on the ice in the middle of the Cottonwood River.
“Police learned the vehicle went off the road, down a 50-foot embankment then launched across the ice and got stuck on the opposite side of the Cottonwood River stranding the injured occupants,” says Riddle.
“Fearing the vehicle occupants would fall into the fast-moving river, the responding police officers donned their life jackets and deployed rescue rope bags to reach the stranded men.”
He says after “several tense minutes,” both men were rescued and transported to hospital for treatment. Riddle expects both to make a full recovery.
Considering the incident, police are reminding motorists in these ever-changing road conditions to slow down and drive to the current road conditions.

A big thank you to the officers! Well done!
I don’t know if they had had any specialised training to do what they did but they got it done safely anyway.
It will indeed be a memorable Christmas for all involved.
