McBride, B.C.- The race is on in McBride, as the community moves towards a by-election to find three new Councillors. The by-election has been officially set for Saturday, March 4th. Candidates can file their nomination papers and declaration papers between 9 a.m. January 17th and 4 p.m. on Friday the 27th .
There are a number of ways to file the required documents:
- by hand mail or other delivery service to the Chief Elections Officer at the Regional District Office on George Street,
- In person ( by appointment only ) to the Deputy Chief elections Officers at the village of McBride
- By fax or email to the Chief Elections officer (fax # is 250-563-7520, email is kjensen@rdffg.bc.ca) . In the case of faxed or emailed documents, the originals must be received by the Chief Election Officer by 5 pm Friday Feb. 3.
The by-election was called in order to fill the posts left vacant when three councillors resigned, leaving just Mayor Loranne Martin and Councillor Rick Thompson to carry on with village business. However, with only two, that left McBride Council with no quorum, so the Province has given the pair special permission to constitute a quorum. The Province also appointed an advisor to the village to assist in maintaining stability.
