Highway 16 Accidents Both East and West of Prince George
Prince George, B.C. – One person is confirmed deceased in a two-vehicle collision early Friday afternoon on Highway 16 east, 20 kilometres east of the junction with Highway 5 in Tete Jaune Cache.
North District RCMP Corporal Madonna Saunderson says the head-on collision has resulted in a complete closure of Highway 16 until about 9 o’clock tonight. She says initial information is that the vehicles involved were a Chevrolet Avalanche pick-up and a Toyota S-U-V.
Cpl Saunderson says one person was declared deceased at the scene but she did not have information on the number of people involved, genders, ages or home towns. She also says at this time the cause of the impact is not known.
There is no detour available around the accident scene. Valemount RCMP officers have not been able to relay information because there is no cell service in the area in question.
Meantime emergency personnel are responding to a reported collision on Highway 16, 53 kilometres west of Prince George. Several first responders are making their way to that site but there is no indication how many people may be involved there.
This accident was reported just after 5pm Friday.
