Overdose Numbers Slip
Prince George, B.C. – The number of reported overdoses in Prince George have declined over the past couple of weeks, but Dr. Andrew Gray says it’s too early to say why.“These things can fluctuate quite a lot from one week to the next” says Dr. Gray “We are still seeing between 10 to 15 overdoses per week in the whole north” says Dr. Gray.
Here in Prince George, there were 18 overdoses in the Week of December 12th, another 13 in the week of December 19th, and a further 6 between Christmas and New Years.
While users are still using, Dr. Gray says the decline could be the result of the type of drugs that are available right now, or other factors may be at play such as people hearing how to use the drugs more safely, using test doses and not mixing them with other substances.
“There does seem to be a declining trend over the past three weeks” says Dr. Gray “but it’s too short a time period to really say anything for sure.”
