Cottonwood Island Park Reopens

Prince George, B.C. – It’s been a while but Cottonwood Island Park and the Heritage Trail have finally reopened to the public.
They’ve both been closed since last month’s cold snap caused a heavy build up of ice on the Nechako River. A part of the trail will remain closed due to excessive ice.
In the interest of public safety, the City hired a security firm to patrol the park entrances on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
The City acted after park visitors were seen playing near the river’s edge and on the ice near the CNR Bridge.

Very happy that the park has opened…unfortunately the city did not plow or upkeep the trail system throughout the closure…and the trails are now more dangerous than the walk on the river ice, that closed it.
