By-Election in McBride Today
McBride, B.C. – The polls open at 8 this morning for a by-election in the Village of McBride.
Nine people have put their names forward for three council seats. The by-election became necessary after three former councillors – Sharon Reichart, Ralph Bezanson and Edith Tracy – resigned their seats in November.
The resignations left only Mayor Loranne Martin and Councillor Rick Thompson on council and short of their required quorum.
Later that month, the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development took the necessary steps to allow Martin and Thompson to constitute quorum so that village business could be conducted.
Residents can vote until 8 tonight at the Robson Valley Community Centre. Special voting opportunities will also be held at McBride & District Hospital from 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and at the Beaverview Lodge from 3:10 p.m. to 3:40 p.m.
Those wishing to cast a ballot will be required to produce two pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not necessary. The documentation must prove both residency and identity.
250News will publish the results as soon as they become available.
