Students Outline Their Budget Priorities
Prince George, B.C.- More than 7 thousand high school students from across Canada, including those at Westwood Academy in Prince George, have been working on what they would like to see in today’s Federal Budget.
The Student Budget Consultation project coordinated by CIVIX, with the support of the Government of Canada, Interac and the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians concludes two thirds of the students who took part ( 66%) believe debt reduction should be a key priority. They would also like to see more dollars dedicated to environmental protection (61%) and post secondary education (58%).
Sixty one percent of students believe that income inequality is a problem in Canada today and a majority support raising taxes on wealthy Canadians (63 per cent) and corporations (53 per cent)..
