Prince George, B.C. – Big Brothers Big Sisters Prince George is getting set to host its second annual Big Gala fundraiser at the Hart Community Centre tonight.
Sydney Sankey, communications and events coordinator, says the game-show themed event aims to raise money for the organizations mentoring programs.
“So, that’s our traditional, our in-school and then our group programming which we’re working on right now getting up and running.”
In all, she estimates they currently mentor 300 children – something she notes is critical to a child’s personal development.
“I think almost every child could use somebody spending five or six hours a week with them. Even if it’s just one hour a week,” says Sankey. “It’s a positive role model, someone for them to look up to, someone to help them reach their potential and open their eyes to what could be.”
She says the night will be filled with games and prizes with a goal of raising $15,000.
There are still a few tickets left. Anyone interested can email Sankey at Sydney.sankey@bigbrothersbigsisters.ca.
Doors open at 6 p.m.
