Date Set for Springwood Elementary Parent Information Meeting
Prince George, B.C. – Parents affected by the reopening of Springwood Elementary School should circle Tuesday April 18 on their calendars.
That’s the night, starting at 7 p.m, the Prince George School District will hold a community information night at Kelly Road Secondary School in the multi-purpose room to discuss the matter and answer questions from concerned parents.
This after the Prince George School Board voted unanimously Tuesday night to reopen Springwood in time for the start of school in September. The move was prompted by the BCTF’s Supreme Court of Canada victory in November and the need for more classroom space. Enrolment has also been growing in the Hart with most schools looking to be at or near capacity next year.
“There will be an opportunity for staff to present some of the information that was shared at the public board meeting,” says chairperson Tim Bennett. “But also making sure there’s going to be an opportunity for feedback and questions – because we know there’s a lot of questions we heard at the meeting. We’ve heard from people following the meeting, wanting to know what things are going to look like in September.”
Since the decision Tuesday, Bennett says he’s heard a wide range of reaction from parents.
“I think it’s an emotional time for families. We’ve heard from those who are excited, who are anxious and who are frustrated.”
In the meantime, he encourages anyone with questions or concerns to call the school district office at 250-561-6800 or to email them at openspringwood@sd57.bc.ca.
