Volunteers Available to Help Low Income Canadians With Tax Returns

Monday, April 10, 2017 @ 5:45 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Need help filing your taxes? If yes, there is help available for individuals with modest incomes.

Through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program, the Canada Revenue Agency has linked with several community organizations to help lend a hand.

“The community organizations hold free tax preparation clinics where volunteers complete tax returns for qualifying individuals,” says the CRA. “Even if there is no income to report for 2016, filing an income tax and benefit return is important to receive certain tax credits and benefits.”

Last year in the B.C. and Yukon, about 2,400 volunteers and 345 community organizations helped over 113,000 people prepare their tax returns.

The deadline to file is May 1, 2017 (the deadline has been extended a day because April 30 falls on a Sunday this year)..

“The community organizations hold free tax preparation clinics where volunteers complete tax returns for qualifying individuals,” .. the reality is, if you have a basic tax return you can send it in blank and it will automatically be calculated by revenue Canada. Other than personal info on the form you are not obligated to fill out your tax returns before sending them in.
