Prince George, B.C. – The opening ceremony for this year’s Telus Cup in Prince George is in the books.

It was held tonight prior to puck drop between the host Cariboo Cougars and Leduc Oil Kings at CN Centre.

It’s actually the third game of the tournament – earlier today the Cape Breton West Islanders beat the Blizzard du Seminaire Saint-Francois 2-1. The second game saw the Missasauga Rebels top the Regina Pat Canadians 5-2.

The 39th annual tournament goes all week with the final scheduled for Sunday.

Cougars head coach and GM Trevor Sprague says nerves won’t be a factor for him.

“No, not really. I’ve been here before in 2001 when it was called the Air Canada Cup so it doesn’t bother me much,” he says.

“It helps out when you earn your way here. I think your feelings are a little bit different when you don’t earn your way here. We also have an older team and great leadership.”
