School District Poised to Begin Lead in Water Mitigation Work

Wednesday, April 26, 2017 @ 5:55 AM

Mackenzie, B.C. – Prince George School Board trustees unanimously approved a capital bylaw at last night’s monthly public board meeting which sets the stage for work on several projects on its Five-Year Capital Plan.

They include safety enhancements related to the mitigation of lead in the water at Edgewood, Foothills, Nukko Lake and Pineview elementary schools (with support from the Ministry of Education’s School Enhancement Program).

Last September, the District estimated the mitigation work at the four schools would cost $400,000.

Support will also be provided from the School Enhancement Program for an upgrade to the heating and ventilation system at Blackburn Elementary School. Work on that project was estimated at $550,000.

The school district will now enter into a Capital Project Funding Agreement with the Ministry of Education.

All projects are expected to be complete by March 31, 2018.
