Turf Off Limits This Weekend

Prince George, B.C. – City sport fields aren’t yet ready to be used.

The City advises its sport fields will  remain closed this weekend in order to keep the turf healthy for the busy season ahead.

Temperatures for the next week remain unseasonably cold and City staff have decided to keep fields closed as a precautionary measure.

Playing on a ball diamond or sport field too early or too late in a season can cause irreparable damage to the root system and weaken the turf. Poor turf may affect play and cause divots which can result in injury, and increase maintenance requirements or premature field closures. It is essential to establish proper root systems in sport field turf.

The College Heights ballfields were being used just the other day. All at the same time as about 6 dogs were being walked and excersized off leash on the school grounds. I guess people just didn’t know dogs aren’t permitted on school grounds.
