All-Candidates Forum at Native Friendship Centre Tonight
Prince George, B.C. – The final all-candidates forum in Prince George prior to General Voting Day will be hosted by the Native Friendship Centre tonight.
It will be moderated by Tribal Chief Terry Teegee with the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council who says the questions will be focused on First Nations issues.
“I think the issue of land, Indigenous rights, as well as treaty rights will be discussed,” he tells 250News. “Also, the issues of education – there are still low numbers of graduation rates for this province. I think these important subject matters need to be discussed more.”
He says other issues that may arise include natural resource development and child and family services issues.
“In terms of child apprehension, there’s high rates of Indigenous children in government care. There’s the issue of access to adequate health. This is nothing new to Indigenous people but I think out in rural areas other people are feeling it too.”
The forum will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. inside the Power of Friendship Hall located at 1600 Third Avenue.
