Prince George, B.C. – The Sikh community of Prince George is inviting the entire community to join with it in celebrating Vaisakhi today.

The annual celebration commemorates the birth of the Sikh faith, the creation of the Khalsa and marks the beginning of the Punjabi harvest.  Today’s festivities are hosted by the Guru Nanak Darbar Sikh Society and the big event is Nagar Kirtan 2017, northern BC’s largest Vaisakhi parade.  It’s a colourful procession with elaborately decorated floats and includes the singing of holy hymns.

The parade begins at 10 am at the Sikh Temple on Davis Road and heads down Ospika Boulevard, travelling to the parking lot at CN Centre.  Free food, including samosas, pizza, sweets and refreshments will be served from noon to 2pm and the celebration will also include displays and entertainment.

The day’s events conclude with a fireworks show back at the Sikh Temple on Davis Road at about 10 pm.

Well, can’t go out of town this weekend, so this will be fun to attend, as will the new location for the farmers market, and the May Day Parade.
Lots of fun in town. Hope all enjoy!
