Prince George, B.C. – National Health and Fitness Day is all about people taking part in healthy physical activity.
And there were several activities to choose from on Saturday as Engage Sport North, the YMCA of Northern BC and the City of Prince George teamed up to promote participation at a number venues around town.
One of the favourites at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre was Pickelball, a sport that can be played by people of all ages, both inside and at an outdoor venue such as a tennis court. Pickelball is sort of a cross between table tennis and badminton, employs a plastic ball with holes and paddles and is played on a court that has a net at mid-court.
You can play singles or doubles and its one of the more popular sports at the Northern Sport Centre. There’s a group of 16 players who show up there religiously, 9 am to 3 pm each day. The sport has been around up there for about 5 years, although it was created in the Sates in 1965.

A number of activities. Including Tai Chi, Yoga and Physical Literacy Games, were scheduled for Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park however the weather was not very co-operative.
One event that did go ahead though was Zumba in the Park. The ladies had the protection of the bandshell to keep the rain off as Sandra Cardenas (second from left, above) exuberantly guided them through a full program.
