Prince George, B.C. – Officials with Prince George Fire Rescue are trying to determine the cause of a fire that damaged the outside wall of a house at 5th Avenue and Alward Street Friday evening.Firefighters from three halls were sent to a house fire at around 7:45pm following reports from numerous residents in the area. Firefighters extinguished the flames as they spread up the outside south wall of the structure.
250 News spoke with a young fellow who was standing on the boulevard outside the property and he said that he, his wife and four children between the ages of 7 and 2 years had just rented the house and moved into it last weekend. The man told us he had just arrived home from working out of town and was sitting down with his kids to watch TV when someone pounded on his door and shouted that his house was on fire.
Everyone got out of the building safely but they weren’t sure where they would be staying for the night due to the smoke that had entered the house. The resident was calling his landlord to report the fire and says he had no idea at all what had caused it. He did have a barbecue in the yard but said it was not being used.
Damage has been estimated at $3,000.
