Prince George, B.C. – Books & Company is doing what it can to help a beloved community member in need.
The independent book store in Prince George is hosting a garage sale Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. above the book store in ArtSpace.
“A lot of the customers, a lot of the community have all pitched in to bring us the stuff that they want to pass on to others,” says store manager Kayli Vandermeer. “Lots of books, video games, cross-country skis – a whole range of things. Basically, everything that people have been able to donate. A complete cross-section.”
She’d like to keep the beneficiary’s identity anonymous though she notes all money raised will go to help to pay for the community member’s medical bills.
Vandermeer doesn’t have a fundraising goal in mind.
“We don’t. It’s been thrown together kind of suddenly. I’m just hoping we’ll be able to raise enough money to make a bit of a difference.”

What medically necessary treatment requires payment from the patient? I really do want to know. I see this sometimes and it doesn’t make sense to me. We have “universal” access to healthcare, don’t we?
Not all forms of treatment are approved for funding. Then there are costs associated with being sick and not working. Bills do not stop just because one is sick.
