Evacuation Alert Issued for Williams Lake – Update

Monday, July 10, 2017 @ 7:07 PM

Williams Lake, B.C. –  The City of Williams Lake has issued a city wide evacuation alert.

A weather forecast for Wednesday has prompted the City to act. Meanwhile the Cariboo Regional District has also issued an evacuation alert for fringe areas around the city.

“This predicted weather has the potential to push fires west of Williams Lake towards the City of Williams Lake at a rapid pace,” says the CRD. “At this point the alert is precautionary, but it is important to give residents ample warning to allow everyone to make all necessary preparations.”

The fringe evacuation alert area applies to the following areas. To see a map, click here.

  • All areas east of the Fraser River from the existing evacuation order at Soda Creek to 9 kilometres south of the Sheep Creek bridge, including English Road.
  • Directly east to the southern end of Chimney Lake, continuing east to Wright Station Road at the north end of Lac La Hache.
  • All areas west of Highway 97 from Wright Station Road to the Williams Lake city limits, north along Highway 97, including all fringe areas of the City of Williams Lake including the areas of Fox Mountain, Pine Valley, Commodore Crescent, Glendale, Wildwood, Bull Mountain and Deep Creek not already evacuated, to the exiting evacuation order area at Soda Creek.

All existing CRD evacuation orders and alerts around the City of Williams Lake remain in place.

    thanks

      Don’t I get a share of the by-line:)

      lol

The total number of evacuees in the province so far is 10-15 thousand. Williams Lake is at least that many, and the surrounding area will add thousands more. Most of those people will be coming to PG.

For those who haven’t though about how you can help, it’s time to start.

Gulp. Fingers crossed for WL and for ourselves in PG…
