Some Evacuees Will Board Buses Today

Monday, July 24, 2017 @ 8:15 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Evacuees from the  100Mile House and 108 Mile area who did not have transportation home,  will be leaving  Prince George  this afternoon via bus.

While many  left on the weekend, those without transportation of their own,  will be boarding buses from the College of New Caledonia and the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre this afternoon at 1:00pm.   Area evacuees will be taken to the South Cariboo Recreation Centre where a resilience centre has been established to provide additional re-entry support for residents.

The return trip to the South Cariboo is requiring that travellers first head east along Highway 16 before turning south on Highway 5. This route is expected to take about 7 hours.

While the evacuation order was lifted on the weekend for  some,  Williams Lake Mayor Walt Cobb sent out a message to residents of his City  last evening,  saying the  evacuation order remains in place  for  his community.  Cob says while  efforts are being made to  prepare for the eventual return of Williams Lake residents,  the situation is not yet safe.

Last night, the total number of evacuees in Prince George reached 9,900.
