Water Bomber Makes Emergency Landing at YXS

Thursday, August 3, 2017 @ 1:46 PM

Prince George, B.C. – Some nervous moments at Prince George Airport this afternoon after an Air Spray Electra aircraft made an emergency landing.

YXS spokesperson Lindsay Cotter confirms the emergency was declared at 12:54 this afternoon prompting the airport to open its Emergency Operations Centre.

She says the waterbomber – used by the BC Wildfire Service – landed safely at 1:05 p.m.

Kevin Skrpenek, chief information officer with the BC Wildfire Service, had little in the way of details during today’s wildfire call with provincial media.

“Yes, it’s my understanding the aircraft has landed safely. In terms of what the nature of it was, I’m not exactly sure at this point.”

One just flew over College Heights heading for the airport and had some kind of engine trouble. It had a definite miss.

That would be an eery sound, so glad they made it down in one piece, and so glad they’re here.

Yes, dicey for sure ! But often practiced as a “what if”. Not fun but at least the fires are not enemy troops shooting back.
