Prince George, B.C. – The UNBC Timberwolves are undefeated this young Canada West men’s soccer season, capping a weekend doubleheader against the TRU Wolfpack with a victory on Sunday at the North Cariboo Senior Soccer League fields.
The home side grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 22:06 mark of the first half with a Stuart Rowlands blast that beat Wolfpack keeper Lubomir Magdolen cleanly. Tofa Fakunle drew the assist on the goal.
Back and forth play from one end of the pitch to the other was fairly even and Thompson Rivers managed to square the game at 1-all in the 33rd minute when Mitchell Popadynetz powered a low shot from the top of the box that handcuffed UNBC keeper Tyrone Venhola and went straight through him into the back of the net (photo below).
The teams ended the half tied at 1 and that left it up to Cody Gysbers to notch what would be the winning goal at 62:03, with the assist from Dan Goodey.
Final, 2-1 UNBC Timberwolves, who now have a record of 1-0-1 following the 1-all draw on Saturday. TRU is 0-1-1.
