Super Bowl Prompts BC Liberals to Move Leadership Vote Dates
Prince George, B.C. – One of the world’s most widely watched sporting events has prompted the BC Liberals to move their leadership vote back a day.
Yesterday, (see previous story here) the party announced it would choose its new leader Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018.
However, that’s the date Super Bowl 52 is scheduled to take place in Minnesota and the party heard from its members that would be a bad idea.
“Yesterday we released the rules and procedures for the process that will choose our party’s next leader,” says president Sharon White. “The overall feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and I know that members throughout the province are excited for the race that will unfold over the coming months.
“However, we did hear from many of you that the overlap between our Leadership Convention and the NFL Super Bowl should be avoided.”
The voting dates have now been adjusted to Thursday, Feb. 1, Friday, Feb. 2, and Saturday, Feb. 3.
The final results will be announced on Feb. 3. The vote was prompted by former leader Christy Clark’s resignation last month.
No candidates have stepped forward so far.
