Single Family Housing Starts Up In August
Prince George, B.C. – Canada Mortgage and Housing’s latest stats show housing starts in August in Prince George were up over the same month a year ago, but the year to date numbers are down because of fewer starts for multiple family units.
Last month, CMHC says there were 27 single family homes started in P.G. That compares to 19 such starts in August of 2016. Multiple family unit starts were also up last month compared to the same month a year ago. There were 8 multi-family units started in August of this year, compared to 2 in August of 2016.
Overall, August had a total of 35 housing starts, up from 21 recorded in the same month a year ago.
The year to date story is a little different, largely because of fewer multiple family unit starts this year compared to last.
Stats from January 1st to August 31st of 2017 show 122 single family dwelling starts in Prince George, up from 113 for the same eight months of 2016. But there were only 35 multiple family units started during that period this year, compared to 118 in the same 8 months of 2016.
