Fort St John, BC. -  A 55 year old Fort St John man has died in an ultralight  accident in Alberta.

RCMP say Larry Lloyd Merrett was practising taxiing the aircraft  at a farmer's field near Caroline Alberta with an on-ground flight instructor when the plane took off.

According to the RCMP, the plane travelled about a kilometre before  plummeting to the ground from a height of about 30 metres.

Merrett was a certified pilot but had limited experience with ultralight aircraft.
