WILLIAMS LAKE – Fire crews and forestry workers are struggling to gain control of a fire south of the community of Nazko and south-west of Quesnel.
One initial attack crew and approximately 20 forestry workers are fighting a fire in an area 70 kilometres south-west of the city of Quesnel.
At last update the fire was estimated to be approximately 20 hectares in size.
No structures or communities are threatened by the fire at this time.
The community of Nazko is approximately 24 kilometres to the north of the fire.
Air tankers and machinery established a fire guard around the fire earlier this afternoon, but an increase in winds allowed the fire to cross the fire guard which had been established.
Two helicopters and some heavy machinery are helping ground crews fight the blaze.
There are currently no fire bans or restrictions in place in the Cariboo.
The Cariboo Fire Centre is experiencing high to extreme fire danger in many areas due to high temperatures and a lack of rain.
