Harmac Mill Workers Have One More Week
By 250 News
Prince George, B.C. - Workers at the Harmac pulp mill in Nanaimo have been given one more week to put together a solid business bid for the mill.
Supreme Court Justice Donald Brenner extended the deadline today.
Last week Judge Brenner ordered the immediate shut down of the mill and gave the mill's worker/management group and their investors one more week to improve their insufficient bid.
The receiver , Price Waterhouse, says it has some bidders in the background waiting to get their hands on the property, none of whom want to operate the facility as a mill.
The Harmac workers/management group got some strong financial backing from Columbia Pulp & Paper, the Canadian subsidiary of Asia Pulp & Paper. Columbia Pulp and Paper joined the workers bid earlier this week with an offer of $11.1 million towards the purchase of Harmac.
